Dr Antonios Drakopoulos is a pharmacist and works as a researcher in NovaMechanics Ltd., a company specializing in artificial intelligence, in silico calculations and prediction of bioactivity of small molecules.
Antonios studied and conducted research in Greece, Germany and the UK and his main research fields are medicinal chemistry and chemical biology, while his skillset portfolio includes organic synthesis, computational chemistry, cell culture and microscopy techniques. During his PhD project, Antonios investigated the oligomerization of opioid receptors (ORs) on the surface of living cells via Single Molecule Microscopy (SMM), using new selective fluorescent probes which he designed and synthesized. Antonios has recently started a MSCA-RISE secondment in the University of Minho, within the H2020-funded EthnoHERBS project, in collaboration with the research groups of Prof. Rui Oliveira and Prof. Alberto Dias. This start-off presentation will focus on his academic background, research experience and scientific achievements until today, and furthermore provide an outlook of the envisaged project to be conducted during his secondment.
